Dance Movement Therapy with Children & Young People
A Two-Day Introductory Course
This course is specifically designed for teachers, carers, parents, nurses, counsellors, youth workers, psychotherapists and other professionals working with young people.
This two day course offers insight into the theoretical aspects of creative movement work and dance movement therapy through experiential exploration. Learning and understanding emerges from from increased self-awareness and body-mind functioning in guided exercises and group reflections within a safe and nurturing space.
The course includes:
• Exploration of Body-Mind interaction (theory and practice) increasing self -awareness, intuition and social understanding.
• Exploration of emotion and motion (experiential exploration).
• Creative play and interaction, exploring the spontaneous creative process.
• Basic principles of dance movement therapy (theory and Practice).
• Benefits of dance movement therapy (theory and practice).
• Benefits of a holistic approach using DMT.
• Non-verbal communication.
• Contextualising experience into participants’ work setting.
• Therapeutic experiences in non-therapy settings.
The interaction between body and mind is increasingly acknowledged amongst professionals in care, community and educational settings. Creative movement work and dance movement therapy are playing a greater role in our sense of well-being and are becoming increasingly intergrated into treatment programmes as wellas mainstream education in the UK. Creative movement and dance movement therapy enable individuals to activate their own creative potential and explore emotional, cognitive, spiritual and physical aspects the unique make-up that we call ‘self’ and ‘personality’.
