Carla Sheills

Carla initially trained as a ballet dancer at a school of the Royal Academy of Dancing in South Africa, gaining the Royal Academy of Dancing advanced certificate. Carla danced professionally until an injury ended her career, but continued to study and teach dance and movement.

Following her move to Great Britain Carla decided to pursue her developing interest in the therapeutic use of dance, attaining an H.N.C. in Dance Movement Therapy Studies with Dance Voice in Bristol, through the University of the West of England. Carla chose to focus on working with groups of adults and children with mental health problems and/or severe learning difficulties.

In the last three years Carla has developed and delivered a highly successful series of workshops for carers and for carers with their clients/patients (with learning disabilities or psychiatric conditions) as well as workshops for young adults experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties. Carla also runs extremely popular creative dance, movement and play workshops for children.
